Well the papers reported, the bloggers debated and the bids were placed.

Despite the hype we are still currently, well,  jobless. But you can help.

We thought after all the response we got from our eBay innovation that we would enter it into the Chip Shop awards.

Now today begins the ‘People’s Choice Vote’ and doing what we do best, we’re trying to get the best self promotion we can. Aptly we entered into the self promotion category, see link below:

Okay, so we hold our hands up and admit that most but certainly not all of the bids on us weren’t genuine. They were people having a laugh. When we were asked our “Buy It Now Price” by a rich Nigerian we kept our fingers crossed, as we demanded £2,000,000 for immediate purchase.

He did not reply.

Unfortunately, we remain unsold. On the market. In the shop window, if you will.

However, selling ourselves to the highest bidder was not the primary intention. Think of it as a good old-fashioned advertising stunt. We didn’t fancy dressing up as elderly men, it just didn’t feel that original. Our stunt was not without reason. It was designed to draw attention to two things: -

- The first is the way people get placements. It’s a funny old apprentice-like system to get a job as a creative in advertising. I doubt there is a prospective creative around who doesn’t wish that getting a job was as simple as an online auction.

- The second was … us. Okay, it’s not a pretty poster, but in 3 days we did manage to get 2 newspapers, 11 blogs and hundreds of tweeters talking about our experiment. Not to mention over 3000 views on eBay. Aside from the odd comment “shame they’re not fit,” we were proud to get people talking about something which has been a constant part of our everyday life for a year now and have received bags of support, so thank you.

However, this did originate as a bid to use the power of the online world and try to get Peter Riley at 2020London to give us a job. So Pete, did it work?!

…or do we need to chase up the mystery bidders and find out what on earth they want from us?! Watch this space, we’ll let you know, when we do.

And just before we leave you to squint at this scan of the article, since you won’t find the Yorkshire Post anywhere but Yorkshire, we would just like to say that we were shocked that the title of the article reads, “How to get a job in advertising.” Just to clarify, we have not yet got a job in advertising…but if it works you’ll be the first to know (after our Mams).

As two young advertising creatives stung by the recession, we decided that it was getting to the point where we had to take some serious action.

It seems as though somewhere along the line,we’ve become extremely popular with the general public. Let’s hope that Peter Riley snaps us up before it all goes horribly wrong!
